What is the Purpose of MMA Shirts and Hoodies

July 30th, 2010

Mixed martial arts shirts, also called MMA shirts serve more than the obvious, “cool looks” purpose of the person wearing these shirts. Rules and regulations of the MMA industry stipulate a certain dress code for every Mixed Martial Arts fighter.

While these t-shirts are not an essential item for MMA fighters in a combat situation, they do serve a major purpose to help them find recognition. On top of the statement, these jerseys also help to support the industry by paying royalties to fighters.

MMA hoodies are made to last.

These days, with the popularity of this industry rising, more and more people wear fighter shirts. This comes as no surprise really since fighter shirts are becoming increasingly trendy. Since the sport has become more mainstream, fans of all ages are eager to demonstrate their association with MMA by wearing a groovy looking t-shirt, jersey or hoodie.

Usually made of durable cotton, these shirts and hoodies are based on white, black or grey colors with a relative snug fit. Designed to withstand more than the average wear and tear they are also a common staple of this sports training wear.

Fighters usually wear these jerseys during training to keep themselves covered. It also helps them to make a statement about their club by sporting a club logo. While fight wear clothing traditionally only includes shorts and gloves, these shirts and hoodies form the perfect basis for fighters and fans to make a statement.

Protection of the upper body during a long sparring session is important for most fighters in order to preserve their physique for the real deal – the actual combat. Therefore jerseys are also a practical attire for MMA fighters.

More than a statement.

Sponsorship is another important aspect of the MMA industry, meaning that many sponsors choose to place their own logo onto a shirt. Logos give the various mixed martial arts retailers the perfect opportunity to market themselves. Sometimes their logos are coupled with the picture of a fighter. Either way, these shirts give sponsors the opportunity to create brand awareness while helping to support the industry in general.

Since the rules for “combat wear” are very strict, the only noticeable way for sponsors to do this is by sponsoring jerseys and shirts of certain fighters.

Support your favorite fighter.

The best way to show your support is by wearing a hoodie or t-shirt with the logo or picture of your favorite fighter. Imagine the rush of excitement your man or woman feels when they see a sea of support jerseys in the crowd during an important fight.

For some fans these shirts are a simple support statement while for others they are pure fashion. Either way, when you are ready to choose from the growing range of MMA fighter shirts you will be able to make an informed decision by selecting the jersey best suited to your taste and preferences.

Remember, whatever your taste is in shirts, don’t forget to support your favorite fighter.

The Importance of Martial Arts Training

July 30th, 2010

The concept of martial arts and martial arts training is not at all new to any one of us. Through movies, magazines, and TV shows, we all have been in touch with martial arts. We have seen Bruce lee’s movies in jam packed theaters and even bought DVD’s of those movies home and watched them unlimited number of times. We all love martial arts; we admire the various forms of this magnificent art and respect those who have been trained in martial arts. Many people developed interest in this art form and decided to get martial arts training. Today, in every country and city, to locate a martial arts club or school is one of the easiest task. Institutes and schools for professional martial arts training are available almost every where.

Mixed martial arts, Muay Thai Kick boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and grappling, Judo, Karate and Silat are some of the famous forms of this art of self defense. Martial art is a very broad and extensive term used to summarize various practices, forms and styles used in a combat. In martial arts training Weapon training, Grappling and Strikes are three specific areas of focus and interest. These are further divided into sub-forms and styles of martial arts training.

Striking has three major styles which summarize almost every martial art form which includes various types of strikes.

• Kicking: Taekwondo, Savate and Capoeira
• Punches: Wing Chun and western boxing
• Other types of strikes: Karate and Muay Thai

Weaponry Training is sub divided broadly into two divisions- Traditional and modern weaponry. Jukendo, style of martial arts is included in modern weaponry, while Fencing, Eskrima, Kyudo, and Gatka are traditional forms of weaponry training.

Grappling involves pinning techniques (Judo and wrestling), Joint lock (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Aikido and Hapkido) and throwing techniques (Sambo, Glima and Jujutsu).

Importance of martial arts training lies in its ability to infuse in us the proficiency to safe guard ourselves under difficult circumstances.

Those who wish to learn multiple styles of martial arts can go for Silat, which has quite similar moves and techniques to Judo and Muay Thai kick boxing.

UFC: Lesnar vs. Carwin Betting Preview

July 30th, 2010

Betting on the UFC is getting bigger with every event. With UFC 116 this coming weekend, there is no reason to think that the betting action will be at an all time high. After almost a year away from the octagon, UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar makes his long awaited return this Saturday evening. Possibly the biggest fight in the history of mixed martial arts (MMA), online sports books are expecting record setting MMA betting action. His opponent is the heavy hitting and interim champ Shane Carwin.

This fight was supposed to happen last autumn; however, Lesnar was forced to pull out due to a near fatal intestinal illness. Now supposedly back 100%, Lesnar is ready to step back into the octagon with the knockout specialist, Carwin.

Due to Lesnar’s long layoff, Carwin won the interim heavyweight title by knocking out former champ Frank Mir in the first round this past March. Now it’s time to unify the belts and to see who is the best heavyweight in the UFC. According to the online sportsbooks, it appears as that title belongs to Lesnar as he is the -150 favorite. However, the early bettors disagreed betting backing the underdog Carwin. You can currently bet on Carwin at +120.

If you have seen Carwin fight, you can’t argue with why the early bettors hopped on his generous betting odds. All Carwin has done as a professional fighter is accumulate a flawless 12-0 record. Even more impressive is the fact that all 12 of his victories ended in the first round. Since entering the UFC four fights ago, he KO’d or TKO’d each of his opponents by devastating fashion.

The one time World Wrestling Entertainment superstar, Lesnar is still very raw. He has been defeating guys on sheer size, strength and athleticism. However, he was an All-American amateur wrestler in college, winning the NCAA heavyweight championship in 2000 so he does have the skills to dominate if the fight hits the ground. A physically imposing force, Lesnar has just four fights under his UFC belt posting a 3-1 record. In the octagon, he just uses his brute force to overpower his opponent which often leads to some devastating ground and pound.

Weighing in at 265 pounds and a physique straight out of the NFL, Carwin is probably the only heavyweight in the UFC that has a chance against Lesnar from a physical standpoint. Carwin also comes from an accomplished amateur wrestling background winning the NCAA Division II National Championship in 1999.

When handicapping these odds, one must consider a few questions:

1. If the fight goes past the first round, how will Carwin look?

Again, Carwin has yet to have to answer the second round bell due to ending each of his 12 fights in the first round. If he can’t finish Lesnar early, how will be fair?

2. What kind of chin does Lesnar have?

With the biggest fists in the UFC, it is no secret Carwin will be looking for an early KO. Brock hasn’t faced anyone with the punching power Carwin possesses and quite frankly, hasn’t been hit hard as of yet. How will Lesnar react if Carwin lands one square on the jaw?

3. Will Lesnar’s layoff affect his performance?

Lesnar last fought on July 11, 2009. Will he have ‘ring rust’ and did his near fatal illness take a serious toll on his body? No matter how hard they train, UFC fighters often struggle coming back from long layoffs.

For those betting on this fight, don’t be surprised if the odds creep up a bit. It is doubtful they will go any lower. Oddsauthority is expecting the late money to come in from the novice UFC bettors on the bigger name Lesnar, thus increasing Carwin’s betting value as the fight approaches.

Pick: Lesnar (-150)

Despite Carwin’s size and punching prowess, Lesnar is just too big. Expect Lesnar to overpower Carwin against the cage eventually taking the fight to the ground. Once on the ground, Lesnar will use his superior wrestling skills and win by ground and pound TKO.

MMA Shorts as Fashion Accessory

July 30th, 2010

The Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) field is a serious one, yet there is much fashion to be found within its reaches. One of the elements of clothing that can signify your interest in the sport as well as add comfort to your wardrobe is a pair of MMA shorts. Often seen with logos and emblems across one leg, these shorts are generally made with an elastic waistband for added comfort, and stretchable panels for additional range of movement.

You do not have to be a cage fighter to wear MMA shorts. These shorts would work well for any sport that requires a wide range of leg movement, such as basketball, running, or other types of warm weather outdoor sports. The internal mouth guard pocket found on some pairs of these shorts could be used to carry identification, cash, or keys when on the go and unwilling to be weighed down with the full bulk of a wallet. The neutral black, white, and gray styling, accented with red, works with most fashion choices, and the look is made complete with a tshirt or tank top.

Shorts of this type are manufactured and therefore ordered by waist size rather than by the arbitrary classifications of small, medium, large, and extra large. The ability to select a pair of shorts that are numerically likely to fit saves time on returns and reorders when one manufacturer has a different idea of what large means than another one.

The internal drawstring present on this type of shorts is similar to that which you would find on any pair of athletic shorts, which means that you can order a size slightly larger than you think you will need and use the drawstring to adjust the size down, then up if your waist size expands. This can come in handy if the sport you are most likely to participate in while wearing these shorts is the sport of watching an MMA fight on television while downing a few beers.

Another advantage to owning a few pairs of these shorts is that they work very well as a fashion statement for women. Much like the letterman jacket one borrowed in high school from a boyfriend, a lady can easily slip these shorts on with a feminine cut tank top or sports bra and be ready to hit the track or the park. If you want a versatile addition to your wardrobe, this is it.
